Turning Point: The Decision to Leave Koh Chang

Our trip to Khao Kitchakut National Park became a turning point in our Thai adventure. Here’s what happened:

  • New Perspective: The trip opened our eyes to the depth of Thai culture and way of life.
  • Decision to Leave: We decided to leave Koh Chang when we were feeling very good – a principle we follow in life.
  • Philosophy of Change: We believe in changing scenery at the peak of happiness, not when everything has become tedious.
  • Seeking Authenticity: We realized that tourist places like Pattaya and Koh Chang don’t give a full picture of real Thai life.
  • Next Stop: Chiang Mai

Inspired by our experience, we decided to head inland:

  • Choosing Chiang Mai: The largest city in northern Thailand, known for its culture.
  • Geographic Location: 800 km north of Bangkok, surrounded by mountains.
  • Cultural Significance: An ancient center with a rich history.

Visa Adventure in Cambodia

To extend our stay, we took a short trip to Cambodia:

  • Visa Run: A brief exit from Thailand to obtain a new 30-day visa.
  • Process: Crossing the border, entering Cambodia, and immediately returning to Thailand.
  • Cost and Time: From 800 to 1300 baht per person, about 8 hours for the entire trip.
