A Freelancer’s Guide to Finding Fast Internet in Thailand: From Beach Bungalows to Mountain Retreats

Freelance work demands reliable internet, and that’s exactly what led us on an adventure across Thailand!

After a 10-day break with Irina Kozlova and Larisa Fedorova’s families at Porn’s Bungalows on Koh Chang, we realized we needed better internet. How good? As good as Thailand could offer!

From our travels, I can say the best speed we’ve found is in the mountains near Chiang Mai – sometimes reaching 1 Mbps download and 300 Kbps upload. That’s paradise for a digital nomad!

Before that, we experienced speeds from 50 to 200 Kbps download and 10-30 Kbps upload in various parts of Thailand.

Irina Kozlova tipped us off about “Oasis” resort, where she stayed last year. It came highly recommended by the famous Dmitry Smakotin. Of course, we had to check it out!

“Oasis” truly lived up to its name. Over two and a half months, we met incredible people there. I’ll share those stories in future posts.

We even met Dmitry and Angelika Smakotin, invited by Irina. They’re a wonderful couple – adventurous, health-conscious, fun, and open. Our kind of people!

Dmitry and Angelika are tea enthusiasts. We introduced them to mate, an energizing drink from Argentina. If you’re a freelancer, I highly recommend it for energy and health. It’s a great ritual to start your workday!

Our friendship with the Smakotins grew. We later met in Bangkok for Dmitry’s birthday, but that’s a story for another time.
