To keep the spirits kind and undisturbing, one must constantly remember them and make offerings. Offerings can be incense, food, or drinks. Drinks are left open with a straw in the bottle or glass.
Thais pray and make offerings almost daily. Spirit worship dates back to Thai paganism and is much older than Buddhism.
